Connotative Significance of Ṣaḥīfah and Muṣḥaf in Qur’ānic Framework

Abstract

There are some important key terms to be disclosed before delving into the research into the compilation process of the Qur'ān like “Ṣuḥuf”, “Ṣaḥīfa” and “MuṢḥaf”. The codification history of the Qur'ān majorly depends upon constructing the illustrations of these terms. Historians, for instance, use the term " Ṣuḥuf " when the debate of the compilation of Qur'ān in the reign of Hazrat ʾAbū Bakar (R.A) comes under discussion. This deliberate application of this term helps the researchers to determine the nature of the textual compilation of the Qur'ān in the Siddiqi time of vice regency. This article is also being rendered to take benefits out of these terminological explorations in the field of Qur’ānic sciences. At the same time, this study provides a serious pondering note over the difference between Qur'ān and MuṢḥaf.
