Abstract

Bernard Lewis is one of the most widely read orientalists of Islamic history in the Middle East. His proposed recommendation has been widely welcomed by Western policymakers. Lewis did not write an account of the Holy Qur'an but his views about Quran are scattered in his various academic works. Lewis's special focus was on the Qur'an. He raised questions about the divine status of the holy book and the literacy of the Prophet of Islam. He argued that the sources of the Qur’an are Jewish and Christian in origin. This article comprises a critical analysis of Lewis’s approach to the study of the Qur’an. A critical and analytical methodology has been adopted in the context of Bernard Lewis’s controversies and scepticism regarding the Quran. The purpose of this study is to emphasise the refutation created by Bernard Lewis on the prestigious book Holy Quran.
